How these picks are chosen

We pull this week's advertised prices from Canadian grocery flyers, match each one to a Statistics Canada staple, and keep only the ones that beat that province's published average by a meaningful margin. The number beside each card is how far below that average the price sits, not a discount off the store's own regular price.

When a pack shrinks

If the same store advertised the same product in two real sizes, weeks apart, and the newer pack is smaller, we say so. We never guess a size from a price chart.

  • Where do these grocery prices come from?

    From this week's Canadian grocery flyers. Every card links to the flyer listing it was published in, so you can check the price at the source.

  • Why does a postal code change the list?

    Flyer prices are set by store and area. Without a postal code you see the best picks from across Ontario. With one, the list uses the flyers that go out near that postal area.

  • How do I know a deal is actually good?

    Each pick is measured against the Statistics Canada average retail price for that staple in Ontario (June 2026, table 18-10-0245-01). Only prices at least 10% below that average make the board.

  • What does "this pack used to be" mean?

    It means we recorded two real package sizes for the same product at the same store. The newer one is smaller. If we have only seen one size, we stay quiet.

  • Is there sales tax on these groceries?

    Basic groceries are zero-rated across Canada, so most of a shop carries no GST, HST, PST or QST. Prepared foods, snacks and non-food items are taxed at the normal provincial rate. MapleTrack keeps Subtotal, Tax and Total on every receipt you log.
